“A Christmas Story” – Era Vintage Jacket

I just have to show you this jacket that I found a few years ago at a church yard sale when we lived in the south.

Way Cool Vintage Jacket

In the first place, I don’t know why it would be in the south, since it doesn’t get all that cold down there.   Not like up here in the Midwest, anyway.  The minute I saw it, I thought of the movie “A Christmas Story.”  I’m sure the jacket is from that same era.  Anyone who has seen the movie…and who hasn’t…would recognize the style.  There are no tags to indicate size or fiber content.  That dates it.  And take a look at the label:

Label says "Boyville"

Isn’t that the coolest, ever?

I love that movie.  My sons taught me to.  They loosened me up to enjoy a bunch of other films, too,  like “The Sandlot,” “Napoleon Dynamite” and “Nacho Libre.”   Stuff  like that comes with being a mom of all boys.  I can’t tell you everything they’ve taught me, but let’s just say I’m corrupted and now laugh at stuff a dignified lady shouldn’t.

So, anyway, when I saw the jacket, I knew I had to rescue it, and bought it on the spot.  It’s (then) woody scent revealed  it had been gently stored in a cedar chest, which probably accounts for it’s great condition.

When we moved north four years ago, the jacket came with us.  It’s for a larger boy.  But it fits me perfectly.  I love this jacket.  It’s really warm.  And cute.  And kinky.  I think it’s a blast to wear vintage clothes.  But Hero isn’t all that crazy about me wearing this.  Maybe because he thinks I look a little hobo-ish in it.  I don’t know.

Okay, then.  So, I thought the jacket might be a real treasure for some eBayer.  (The movie has quite a following now.  The house where the movie was made has even been turned into a museum.) http://www.achristmasstoryhouse.com/    I’ve never sold anything on eBay but thought I’d give it a try.  And spent a long time trying to figure out how to list it.  A long time.  Then I hit the wrong button and lost the whole thing.

So, the jacket is still here.  And I thought, what the heck, why not show it to y’all.   Maybe some “A Christmas Story,” aficionado out there in Blog Land will see it and offer me a thousand dollars for it.

Or maybe it’ll just make you feel like whipping up a batch of buttered popcorn and snuggling with your kids for a good laugh watching Ralphie and his family welcome Christmas in 1939.

P.S.  See if you can spot the jacket.  Clue: It’s a different color.
